For my first I-Search paper I am going to write about how much the media has an influence on eating disorders such as belimia and anerexia. Some things that I know about these eating disorders are that many teenage girls are affected by them everyday because they don't feel like they are skinny enough. Belimia is when the individual throws up after they are done eating. Anerexia is when the individual just doesn't eat. One of my friends dealt with being anerexic because people used to tell her that she was fat. She got so sick of hearing that so she decided to quit eating and run on a daily basis. She told me that she wouldn't eat breakfast or lunch and then when she would get home from school she would run until she felt like she was going to pass out. Occasionally, she would eat a meal just so that she wouldn't pass out. Over the course of six months or so she lost about 40 pounds, which is very unhealthy for your body. She has outgrown this eating disorder, but still thinks that she is fat.
Something that I would like to find out about these eating disorders is how many people they really do impact. Also, I would like to know what the long term affects are after the individual recovers from these types of eating disorders. Another thing that I would like to learn is if the media mostly affects teenage girls or also boys.
